Non Thermal Ablation

There are two main forms of Non-Thermal Ablation techniques available in New Zealand. Both involve the insertion of catheters directly into the vein through small incisions and treatment is performed with ultrasound control. The method of closure is with either medical adhesive or by combined mechanical disruption and sclerotherapy.

The reported advantage of these techniques is that the treatment only needs one injection of anaesthetic and requires less use of compression stockings afterwards; in the case of glue, no compression stocking is required. The techniques are extremely well tolerated and are highly successful when used appropriately.

A Specialist will be able to explain whether either technique is suitable.

Please note that due to funding limitation by some insurers, both techniques may require 'top-up' payments. Your insurer will be able to advise you on what they will pay towards the treatment.
